Cleaning Windows

Window cleaning is one of the most challenging cleaning tasks. Depending on how many stories your house or business is, it can even be dangerous. However, using some basic techniques, window cleaning can be easy and safe. The easiest method of cleaning windows is to use a squeegee. A squeegee will come with two ends; a cloth end, and a rubber end called the blade. To clean the window you should dip the squeegee in a warm water and soap solution. The soap can be regular detergent, or a professional solution. Take the cloth end of the squeegee, and scrub the window gently. The soap solution will break up dirt and grime, and clean any finger prints on the window. The blade of the squeegee is used to dry the window. The best method for this is the fan method (also called the swivel method). It involves a zigzag motion so that the water´s edge is always below the blade. When you make the turn, the water should always be below the blade. This method is the easiest, and most efficient. Once perfected, you shouldn´t have any left over water at the end. If by chance you´ve missed a spot, you can always touch it up with a micro-fiber rag. If your window is big enough, the squeegee might require a flick of the wrist to get excess water off of it.

Window cleaning by nature is a dangerous job. However, there are a few precautions you can take to avoid injury. When using ladders, you should never stand on the top step. Modern ladders have labels that tell you what rungs are meant for standing, and which should be avoided. Another big mistake is not locking the ladder. When standing on the ladder, it should be in a locked and secured position at all times. This also means it should be on a level surface to avoid tipping. A good alternative to a ladder is scaffolding. You can buy a portable scaffold for just a little bit more than a decent ladder. If you´re going to be cleaning your windows often, it´s a highly recommended extra.
